Domaine Jacqueson Rully 1er Cru La Pucelle" blanc 2007
I thought that this might be suffering from being bottled recently but it was delightful. Fine minerally, citrus aromas on the nose. Obviously, very young. The palate is well balanced, crisp mouth-watering acidity and a completeness to the finish that some 2007 whites seem to be lacking. A lightness in the mouth but with length. Really enjoyable and excellent quality for the appellation.
Vincent Dureuil-Janthial Rully 1er Cru Les Cloux 2006
This was surprising, after previous bottles were so tight. I suspect some bottle variation at play. The nose was lemon syrup and crème brûlée. Very rich and powerful. The palate was of similar intensity but a little unknit. One could sense the alcohol. Disappointing after previous experiences.
Jacques Prieur “Clos de Mazeray” Meursault 2004
Served blind I thought this was a 2002 as it had a golden hue that suggested development and a warmer vintage. The nose was oaky and displeasing. The oak seemed of particularly poor quality. The palate was very minerally and seemed to have good material under the oak. There was a bitter woodiness to the finish which the nose had intimidated. Disappointing.
Joseph Roty Marsannay 2006
I think Roty is a very interesting producer, bridging the traditional and modern. This Marsannay stood out as one of the best I’ve had from 2006, rich blackcurrant, cherry and sweet almost chocolate-like oak aromas on the nose. The palate was rich, mouth-filling, well structured and long. This is a pleasure to drink now with food but is meant to age. The oak is a little obvious for my liking but that is the house style.
Hubert Lamy “La Princée” Saint-Aubin 2006
Lamy is a producer to follow. That said, this wine had a displeasing burnt rubber and wet dog DMS character to the nose, which slowly dissipated over an hour. The palate had an excellent, refreshing quality not seen enough in 2006 whites. Crystalline. Might need a few more years to get passed the sulfur problems.
Am I becoming too sensitive to sulfur? Is that a problem?
