Wine At The Table

Brief notes on a few wines

29 August 2008

Pol Roger NV (dis 2005) – nice aperitif
Pieropan Calvarino Soave 2006 – pleasant on the nose but not very interesting on the palate
O. Leflaive Meursault-Charmes 1999 – very good for the vintage, rich but poised.
Comtes Lafon Meursault Clos de la Barre 1990 – shows the glass of Lafon but seen better days.

Faiveley Les St Georges 1er 1986 – typical aged Faiveley: iron fillings and pine cones as either Mark or Danny said. Good.
Isole e Olena Syrah 1995 – terrible
Henri Bonneau Reserve des Celestins CdP 1999 – very dry, spicy, green olive, might need a long time but just can’t get excited by this kind of wine.
Wendouree Shiraz 2006 – Surprised by how open this was but not a style I appreciate.
Puriri Hills Reserve Cabernets 2005 – what others said

Chateau Kefraya Cabernet blend 2003 – Liked it. bottle style is terrible.
Chateau Kefraya Comte De M year 2002 – A bit over the top but still interesting. Awful label.
Musar 2000 – nothing going on. boring. All I could see were the faults.
Vina El Pison 2000 – Not sure I see what this wine has to say: but it could have been the pace of the drinking or the food.

Loosen Erdener Pralat Riesling-Auslese Goldcap 1996 – Pretty good.
