My folks actually treated me to a bottle of J.F. Coche-Dury “Les Caillerets” Meursault 1er Cru 1999 at the two star Les Ambassadeurs. This wine was typically Coche-Dury on the nose but I found it lacking on the palate. I’ve not had it before so I do not know if this was a representative bottle. The convivial nature of meal and the fact that my parents prefer to drink with than analyze it, I saw no reason to discuss it with the sommelier.
The restaurant is superb. Set in absolutely palatial surrounds at the Hotel Crillon on Place de la Concorde you could be forgiven considering yourself royalty just for a moment. The food is delicious, but clean, light and with a playful edge. The lunch time menu is reasonably priced — at 84 euros — but the wine list is expensive. Recommended for those looking for a meal in Paris which gives some insight into the heights of French dining and quality of food without requiring too much expense.
