Wine At The Table

J.F. Mugnier Clos de la Maréchale 2004

09 January 2008

I had a J.F. Mugnier Clos de la Maréchale 2004 somewhere along the way. I found this a challenging wine. I’m very familiar with the 2005 and so my perception is hopelessly compromised. The nose showed green but not off putting fruit. This is the vintage, you cannot criticise it for being what it is. The greenness changed into an aroma of spent coffee grounds and the heady aroma of a candela grade cigar (a cigar made of young leaves). Structurally, the wine was what you would expect.

I think this wine captures the vintage perfectly. It will interesting to see what it does over time.
