Wine At The Table

A few recent bottles

11 August 2007

Sylvie Esmonin Clos St. Jacques 2001 Closed for some time but finally showing rich coffee and chocolate flavours on the palate. Well structured, soft tannins, well balanced but not mind blowing.

Dard et Ribo Crozes-Hermitage 2005 Huge lift of white pepper on the nose mixed with raspberries and violets. A little thin on the palate (yields are stupidly high in Crozes) but a pleasant easy to drink weight.

Chateau Malartic-Lagravière Blanc 1990 Badly oxidised. Damn.

Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 2001 Dancing with death after one oxidised white but this paid off. Wow. Soft beautiful aromas of white peach, honey dew, nougat, almonds, grass and lemon. The palate is perfectly poised, beautifully balanced. On poulet jaune fermier with a butter and taragon sauce, it was superb. With cheese, it suffered. Thus, a fabulous wine swell suited to white meat.
