Nicolas Potel Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru “Les Poulettes” 2000 This was a really good NSG. Pure, fresh, lively on the nose, very lifted, nearly pungent. Juicy pinot fruit, red berries, a bit of undergrowth. The palate, superb. Fine tannins, acid present but not in your face, very long and delicious. Better than the ’93 Baby Jesus consumed recently.
In the tiny cave where we bought it, the owner had asked what crus and domains of Burgundy I liked. He seems surprised that I knew my way around. He asked Gen what she liked. ‘DRC’. The look on his face said it all: Monsieur, throw away that awful paint stripper and follow me to the cellar. Luckily, I exited the store quickly with bottle and wallet safe.
